Be.

It’s really late, or really early.. depending on how you look at it. Everything on the natural plane is quiet right now. If you listen closely, you can hear the house settling on the foundation. Beside me, my daughter’s even breathing brings a slight curl to my lips. Soon, I will also close my eyes.. and join her in peaceful slumber. First though, I am going to relish in this stillness; and, just be.

It’s hard sometimes, to just be. We get so caught up in doing, that we forget that there is nothing that we can do. I know that may seem paradoxical, and in many ways… it is. Everyone is trying to be somebody, rarely realizing that they are somebody. Completely forgetting to be that person. I will not get to where I am going, if I refuse to start from where I am.

Does that make sense to you? That right now, you are everything that you are supposed to be in this given moment. You have everything you need, to do whatever it is that you think you need to do. Instead of doing what it takes, be what it takes. You have what it takes, and it’ll take all that you have.

When Moses asked God, “Who do I say that sent me?” God’s response was, “I AM that I AM.” How profound, that He didn’t say what He went about accomplishing. Jesus, The Word Became Flesh. He Was, He Is, He Is To Come… WHO not WHAT. Jesus is the same; yesterday, today, and eternally.

So, no. We are not God. We are not Jesus. We are, however, made in His Image. So, why are we doing so much, and being so little? God is more concerned with what He is doing in you, than what you can do for Him. Seriously. IF we were able to accomplish what we strive to earn, Calvary would have been for nothing.

This house, is just being… settling on its foundation. Settle in on your foundation, listen to The Holy Spirit.. what is it telling you when everything is still? Do you even know what still is? Can you give yourself permission to just be long enough to hear what really is required of you? That Still, Small Voice… remember that?

Do you sleep like a small child, because you have the faith of one? Does the thought of the fact you are breathing, or that anyone else is, bring a smile to your lips, because you recognize just how significant it is that you have breath? Can you close your eyes, for just a moment, so that they may be opened?

Do it. Just be.

“Be still, and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth.”

         Psalm 46:10

“Teach me, and I will be quiet; show me where I have been wrong.

        Job 6:24

The LORD is my shepherd, I shall not be in want. He makes me lie down in green pastures, he leads me beside quiet waters, he restores my soul. He guides me in paths of righteousness for his name’s sake.

        Psalm 23:1-3

The LORD will fight for you; you need only to be still.

        Exodus 14:14

And he arose, and rebuked the wind, and said unto the sea, Peace, be still. And the wind ceased, and there was a great calm.

         Mark 4:39

  1. This was a great post. And thanks for the accompanying scriptures. Not that I can ever be compared to God or Jesus, but I often say, “I am who I am, and that’s all I know how to be” I don’t pretend to be, or change to suit others. I am who I am

      Good Morning Lana,
I wanted to provide some encouragement for you. The Bible says in 1 Corinthians 15:10 that “ By the Grace of God, I am who I am, and that His grace towards me was not in vain”. I want you to know that this is one of my absolutely favorite scriptures because it gives me courage to know that God created me to be the unique person that I am, and that when He created me it was with a purpose. Jesus came on the earth to die for our sins so that we can fulfill the reason for why we are created. Now in response to the work on the cross, I choose to live a life that honors God and the reason He has given me grace. God through Jesus gives us the enabling ability to change the person who we are today, into the person He wants us to be tomorrow.

Don’t get me wrong, there is nothing you can do that will cause God to love your more than He does now. The person you see staring back at you in the mirror with all your strengths and weakness, God is madly madly madly in love with that person. And out of that love He wants to come into your life in such a way that all the things you dislike about yourself He will show you that His love and Grace covers all those things.
You are who you are, by the Grace of God and who you are is enough for God to madly pursue you with an unrelenting love. If you trust in Him and live for Him, you will find that you will like the person staring back at you in the mirror more and more as that person is perfected in the image of Jesus.

Or look at it this way. A good parent will always love and accept their child, but will always push and encourage and teach their child how to become the best that they can ever hope to be. No parent lets their child not go to school, or eat unhealthy food all day regardless how much that child just wants to do that. All good parents will tell the child to get off the floor, and move forward into the better things of life. God is the best parent in the world, and He will always love us and cherish us, but He is always giving us opportunity to become a more perfect image of His son.
Jesus said “ I have come so that you may have life, and life more abundantly”. If who we are today was enough then all Jesus would have said was “I have come so you may have life” but He went further than that and said I want you to have abundant life. Lana, lean and trust in Jesus and follow His ways and He will transform you into someone who shows the world the amazing power of God’s transforming love. We are who we are, but we are not called to remain as we are.
